| When
he started listening to Reggae Music in the
early 1980's, Netherlands based Dubcreator
soon discovered the mighty sounds of DUB and
decided to focus on this discipline of
Reggae Music for the rest of his life.
In Amsterdam, where he lives, he came up
with a concept to play DUB live with a band.
Remarkable, because DUB is a specific studio
music. So to think of ways to play this
particular style of Reggae live with a band
isn't something easy.
Obviously, this drew the attention of the
media. Organizers of festivals and concerts
knew to find him too, and soon the Screaming
Abdubs were an established name.
Dubcreator didn't only take his studio on
stage. When he wasn't performing, he was
doing what people usually do in studio's:
recording and mixing music. In Dubcreator's
case, this music was deep Reggae, in the UK
Tradition. And it didn't take long before
his debut album was released. A special
Internet Edition of this album can be
downloaded for free from our Net Label.
In the mid 1990's he became one of the
first online DUB artists. Together with
Messian Dread, he put the Netherlands on the
World Wide DUB Map as he was a continuous
occupant of the (DUB) Reggae download charts
on MP3.com for years and years in a row.
Dubcreator developed relations with the
UK, where there is a very active Sound
System and DUB community. His friendship
with Russ D. from the Disciples was just one
of his connections. Collaboration tracks
were released, vocalists found his studio
too and enjoyed the vibes.
After the MP3.com debacle, Dubcreator
moved on, releasing records with a host of
crucial vocalists. He had not forgotten his
live concept either, as he kept coming up
with new ways of performing live DUB. His
own studio had provided him with a lot of
"specials", and so he played
full-length DJ sets with exclusive tracks
from his own catalogue.
From his initial band, to his Internet
releases, Dubcreator now owns his own label
and he continues to produce heavyweight
material from his studio.
